With the monster Christmas festive season revving up with just two more weekends of mad partying, we went for a few drinks in and around Brixton last night, and grabbed these photos on the way.
First stop was the Joiners Arms, just past the far end of Coldharbour Lane on Denmark Hill, Camberwell.
We checked out their last open mic of the year, and it was very entertaining. The guy above sang an entire song in ‘cat language’ (i.e. the lyrics went, “Miaow, miaow, miaow” etc etc).
This fella mixed up prog rock and stadium rock and performed like he was playing the Stateside Enormodome. We loved his energy and enthusiasm.
The bonhomie-loaded bar man introduced us to his stuffed ferret. And why not.
The compere introduces the next act. We were running late and had to head back to Brixton, so unfortunately missed out our visit to the Junction, further along Coldharbour Lane.
The next stop was the Prince Albert.
The Albert has finally put back some normal pub seating, which is bloody great news and makes the place far more welcoming.
There were big queues to get into the Prince of Wales, which now demands full Photo ID scanning and that’s a major bummer.
Strangely it wasn’t that busy once we got inside.
Despite the hassle of the Photo ID scan, it’s still a great place to spend a Thursday night.
Our final stop was the Dogstar which was packed till close.
