The first Friday night of a New Year can often be a strangely quiet kind of affair, especially if it comes right after the New Year’s Eve festivities.
Last night I took a stroll around Brixton to see what was happening, starting off at The Cambria in Loughborough Junction (full review coming shortly).
The No Frills Band were hosting a folk session and there was a lovely vibe in the pub.
Next stop was Kaff on Atlantic Road which was reasonably busy.
This chunky cardigan-bedecked type took a shine to my camera and elected to jump into view and pull this rather individual pose. Why, thanks for that, mister.
Two lone dancers cut a rug in the corner.
A ten minute walk up Effra Road took me to the Effra Social for the Surf City rock’n’roll night.
Behind the DJ decks.
A fine collection of vinyl 45s.
Frank serves up some big 50s hits.
I’ve always been fond of mirror balls, and the one at the Effra Social is a fine example.
A quick jaunt down to Coldharbour Lane took me to the Prince Albert, which was fairly busy, but with many regulars still reeling from the big New Year’s Eve party there, the atmosphere was somewhat muted.
The final stop was at the Dogstar, where the dancefloor was enthusiastically jumping around.
Just as I left, three guys thought it would be a good idea to take on the bouncers just as the club was about to close. It wasn’t.
